Party of 5 of us came in for dinner. 4 out of the 5 had "digestive distress" within 1 hour after leaving. i loved the 1970s ambiance, unlike the other 4 members of our party. The food was average tasting, the price was high end downtown Chicago. The entire staff seemed friendly and attentive. We portions were good since we had leftovers, but due to our intestinal issues, we decided to throw those away when we got home. (Relish tray...excellent. As weird as this sounds, I would go back just for that as a small meal for $7.95 if offered.)

THE WORST!!! Waitress attitude was fist thing we hated. Didn't say a word to us so I thought I would try to break the ice by asking her for a cocktail recommendation. "No, we don't have any specials." Is there a drink you could recommend? "No." Not helpful at all. Really set the tone for the evening. Wife's Greek salad was good, my steak was juicy but bland. Another couple came in and sat next to us and the waitress came to life! Even my wife noticed it. Since we went out of our way to be nice to her the only reason I can think of why she was nicer to them than us our race. As we were leaving I brought all of this to the attention of the owner. "Well, it was a long weekend." He said with a smile. Yeah, that experience certainly made for a long weekend for me and my wife. Will never go back. Will warn all my friends and family about this place.

Simply amazing food, atmosphere, and service. We adore classic steakhouses like Anthony's that offer an intimate and enjoyable dining experience. The atmosphere is low lit but not as to impair your vision. The offer a full bar that is separate from the dinning area. The server was extremely friendly and visited the table several time during our visit. In addition to complementary bread, Anthony's serves a good sized veggie tray to include olives, carrots, celery, and peppers. The tray is complimented by small bowls of cheddar cheese spread, sour cream, and whipped butter. All of which were delicious. My wife ordered the King Crab Legs and I had a New York strip. The entrees are accompanied by a choice of baked potato, hash browns, or fries. In addition you also get a salad or the soup of the day. The steak and crab were both outstanding. The tenderness of the steak rivaled many steakhouses we have been to in Chicago and San Diego. Unlike many places, there is no lag in the courses. We felt like we were falling behind in keeping up with all the delicious food! Our final bill was $102 prior to tip which also included one mixed drink and one beer. The price is slightly higher than most places but there was no doubt it was worth every penny.

The steak was poor quality and overcooked as I asked for a medium steak but turned out to be well done. Overall, the relish tray with the 3 dips was very nice.

Prime rib is the word! Get it every time I go there. I get the Queen's cut and still bring half home. Done perfectly all the time. My husband loves the walleye. We had been to Anthony's over 25 years ago and thought we would give it a try. It is exactly the same, good or bad. Even Anthony in his 90's smoking his cigar with tennies on still makes the rounds. Good food, supperclub atmosphere and affordable prices. You aren't paying Chicago prices, YES!!! So glad that we went back.

This is an old style steak house like the ones I grew up going to. The steak wasn't phenomenal but okay. The service was great and the salad / appetizers leading up to the steak was fabulous. I was expecting more out of the steak and this doesn't compare to a Ruth Chris but for the price I am not complaining. I think this is a 3 1/2 star not three. The place is not a la cart like the newer steak house which is what I liked about his place. However they need to work on the steak seasoning or searing it to a perfection.

We have been driving past this restaurant for like 10 years and we finally had the opportunity to go here for dinner. We ordered a Charles Krug Napa for $50 which was a good price. I ordered the French Onion Soup which I thought would have been excellent but was one of the worst. No broth, no toast on the bottom. Under the cheese was onion oatmeal. The relish tray brought back memories. I haven't had breadsticks in a while. And I'm a sucker for balls of butter and cheese. The steak was good and potatoe pancakes were different but good. I absolutely loved the atmosphere. Brought back memories of when I went to restaurants with my grandparents.

Just adore this wonderful time warp place.....the essence of a classic Wisconsin supper club! Peter T. below is such the exception...he probably needs to go to TGI Fridays........this is ANYTHING but a dump. Terrifically wonderful staff....including owner Tony who chomps on his unlit cigar.....strong drinks.....awesome multiple fake fireplaces....really good walleye.....good steaks.....just a warm hug of a place......really miss it......a true gem...

Keep on driving past Anthony's until you find yourself in downtown Lake Geneva or Williams Bay where you'll find every restaurant better than this dump. The fish was so awful even the cat wouldn't eat it leftover. The steak was poorly prepared. Dingy awful dining room and unpleasant staff. Seriously question who rates this place favorably.

I was at this place years ago and remember it as being pretty good. So, last night I went there again. OMG! What happened!? What a dump! And the food - horrible! To make matters worse, the check was padded by $30 (about 30% higher than the check should have been). When I brought this to waitress' attention, she said that it is all done by the computer and computer made a mistake - recorded $33 instead of $3 .... Really!!!? I know this is the only place in the neighborhood that looks like a restaurant, but, please do yourself a favor - go to McDonald's or KFC instead, you will be glad you did!

I have past this place for DECADES, and I mean Decades going back to the 60's 70's... NEVER ate there. Finally on a trip to the Abbey with my GF in a snow-storm nov 2000-something we went. She loved this place! She is a cheese-head and said it was a typical WI "Supper Club" whatever that was supposed to mean. Cheese/relish tray crackers and bread sticks, soup or salad, Then the Steak. Perfect. Desert if you have room. Not noisey, don't have to talk loud, no clanking silver-ware and dishes, no TV's. A GREAT quiet dinner with my GF/Wife. The way dinner Should be, not having to YELL a conversation and respect for the other diners.

Great prime rib... Had the all you can fish fry which includes fried and baked.... Good old fashioned!

Traveled from Harvard IL to Lake Geneva WI to eat at this restaurant for our 32nd Anniversary. Our server was great! The steak, though not a Chicago steak by any means, was tender and good. The server was delightful and attentive. We loved the fresh, warm bread and the relish tray before dinner with three dips! My soup was a bit salty and husbands salad dressing a bit tart but other than that the food was great. We spent $69 for two of us and left extremely full. Nice area. We were there in the evening would have liked to seen more of the town. Was disappointed Anthony didn't greet us himself as his website said he does lol

The place is out if the 70's but the food is constantly good. Service is always good.

My wife and I had a spectacular dinner here last night 8/25/2014 for our anniversary. The rib eye steaks were amazing. Of the steaks I've ever had, this one made my Top 5 list. This is the kind of restaurant that includes the salad and appetizers without charging extra. A true old school 70's style steak house with the little red candles even. Of course, our waitress has been working there for 30+ years and it showed. She was very prompt, courteous, and friendly without being over bearing or interrupting. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal.

Hands-down the worst steakhouse that I have ever been to. The steak was poor quality and the temperature was cold. The interior Decore is awful and probably hasn't been updated in 40 years. On top of all that it's overpriced and the service was not great. Save your money and go to McDonald's it will be much better.

This place is a serious dump. The positive reviews here must either be fake or from people who wouldn't know a decent restaurant if it hit them in the face. Horrible staff, management, disgustingly old decor, and mediocre at best food. We just visited here with a large party and our entire experience was ruined. I ordered surf and turf with a side of sautéed mushrooms. When the waitress brought the mushroom cap appetizer I told her that wasn't what I ordered, she rudely made a big deal about it, no apology. The group felt very unwelcome and uncomfortable. While she was bringing out food the entire time she was complaining about how confusing we were making her job, delivering wrong items to wrong people and never admitting wrong for her mistakes. The food was horrible, all steaks in the party were awfully overcooked. My lobster was rubbery, and my girlfriends dover sole was disgustingly over seasoned and tough. The rude waitress even forgot to bring my mushrooms after screwing up the order, I never received them. Obviously with such poor service the bill was a clown show. We were charged for a side (vegetables) that was included with the $35 dover sole, and when it was brought to the waitresses attention she again blamed us and was snarky and VERY rude. Upon speaking with the manager Charlie, he too was entirely unprofessional. He insultingly offered us a $25 gift certificate, as if we would ever eat here again. He then went on to tell us repeatedly how he doesn't like the waitress and how she might not have a job tomorrow. Really? Keep those decisions to the business, don't tell your patrons about it. Save your money, there are plenty of better places to eat in Lake Geneva.

Seating having dinner at Anthony's steak house in lake Geneva, and if you have never visited Anthony's do yourself a favor and DON'T. People that have wrote good reviews on this dump, are either employees or paid customers. The service is awful, the place is dingy, dirty and they forgot to change half of the burned out light bulbs on the 1935 chandelier. None of my silverware matches, it's mix and match, you don't know what type of fork or knife to use. Surprise when I expected the food to be ok. My steak over, over, over, done, wonder why it took 45 minutes to get it. I just can't write anything else to make this place sound good, so I will stop now....I will not be back!

Came here again for family birthday celebrations in March. Just as I remember from last time with stiff drinks at the bar, excellent food, and great service. This will be our tradition to go to again next spring. Ignore the negative reviews on this place - either these folks were having a bad day or the staff was off that day. And yes, this place looks like your grandma's basement bar - that's what's fun about it.

All time favorite for date night! Step back in time and enjoy the 70s! Love, love, love the bar! My husband and I always start there for a cocktail or two. We usually put our name in and wait for a table in the dining room. We like to eat slow and enjoy the experience and this is the perfect place to do it. Highly recommend the Prime Rib or Ribeye. I also enjoy the Orange Roughy or Cajun Shrimp over rice. Good people, fair price, great service!

The only 2 things that made this place palatable were the relish platters (love having veggies to munch on than just bread) and the servers. One of the ladies tending our table even took one of the babies on her hip to help him calm down. Worked like a charm! The salad was ok, a little sad looking though. I ordered the pork chops Greek style as recommended. Not only were they charred and over-cooked, they were hard as a brick! There wasn't a bone in them and I couldn't even cut through it with a steak knife! They were nice enough to take it off the bill. I had one of my husbands fish fillets (his dinner had 3) and they were severely over-cooked as well. The prime rib was received well by others at our table but the portions were ENORMOUS. The decor is straight out of the 70s but I guess that's what brings this place their charm? Huge portions of overcooked, over salted food. Nice staff. Won't be going back.

We had dinner at Anthony's last night, and I had to write my first review. We were calling all over Lake Geneva trying to find somewhere to eat. We ended up at Anthony's, and called from the parking lot to make sure they had space available. The place does have the feel of another decade. You almost expect Frank Sinatra to walk through the door. Upon being seated, the waitress brought a relish tray and cracker basket to our table, and took our drink orders. The drinks came quickly, and were well made. We placed our dinner order, the prime rib and a New York strip. We were then brought a bread basket. Dinner came in a timely manner, and was fabulous. My prime rib was cooked to perfection, and was very flavorful. The au jus was to die for. It was the best prime rib I've had in years. My husband's NY strip was a bit undercooked, but he said it was awesome anyway. The waitress we had was great, and the maitre d came by our table to see how everything was. We ended up spending about $65 for a dinner for two, but if you're drinking expect to spend a bit more. Desserts are on the menu for $3.50! I would definitely recommend this restaurant, and we'll be adding it to our annual "must do's" while on vacation.

Anthony's is your typical old school supper club. Food was good, but not great. The service was friendly and adequate, the menu is very simple.

A great place-like stepping back in time. Steaks are awesome as are the ribs, pork chops and many other items on the menu. It is a time warp, but that's part of the charm.

Anthony's was as good as I remembered - I remember taking my mom here for her birthday most years when we came up to Lake Geneva. Yes, the place is an old-school steakhouse. There's nothing wrong with this. The food is great, the service friendly and attentive. I forgot about the relish tray and cheese before the meal - love them. Both of us had the prime-rib (medium-rare) and a cup of clam chowder. My only regret was that my eyes were bigger than my stomach. The prime-rib was perfectly done, tasty, and tender with just the right amount of crust. The chowder was thick, creamy, and delicious. Didn't see Tony; talked with his son but forgot to asked if Tony was ok...

It's like eating a steak in a funeral home. If you're under 60, this probably isn't what you were looking for. Our waitress was a crabby older lady who seemed like she has been doing this way too long and was way past her prime. The food was OK. Not worth coming back for. I do have to admit that the parking lot is packed every weekend though. Not exactly sure why.

BEST RESTAURANT IN THE LAKE GENEVA AREA! We've vacationed in the Lake Geneva area for years and we love the Lake and the scenery, but our biggest complaint has been finding a good restaurant. After driving past Anthony's many times in the past 10 years, we decided to give it a try one Friday night (August 2012). They had a fish fry and it was one of the very best fish dinners we've ever eaten, and it was reasonably priced! The service was very good. I have some food allergies, and our waitress was very helpful in checking on ingredients. The atmosphere was nice - it is like stepping back into the '70's, BUT in a GOOD way. Very clean, great service and excellent food. And, Anthony, himself, was there and visited our table. We went back in August 2013, and had the petite filet and it was honestly the best filet mignon I've ever tasted. Once again, the service was great even though the restaurant was crowded. I suggest making reservations - especially on Friday and Saturday nights. And, Anthony, himself, was there and visited each table asking how we liked the food, just as he did the previous year. Next year when we go, I'm going to ask him if we can get our picture taken with him!

Love this place! Shrimp de jonghe lovely and tons of it. Crab Stuffed mushrooms large and flavorful. Steaks that are done perfectly (fresh cut). Escargot and scallops 70's garlic and butter pool. Frog legs-average.

My husband and i were pleasantly suprised when we ate here. We went on a friday and tried the fish fry..Oh my! was it good..and I dont like seafood much..i actually had the broiled( not battered cod as i would usually) and i liked it so much! DEVINE! Of course since the HOBNOB in Kenosha is my favorite place on earth ambience wise..this was right up my alley! I love old school type decor, I love big roomy booths and the service is great. The big itallian man, whom i believe is the owner, has character and is a hoot! We are not uppity type folks so we like fancy without the extra snooty on the side.lol. I do have to say that if you have the AYCE fis fry you dont get all the fun appitizers/relish tray things..oh well. You get enough to eat here as it is! The waitress suggested a white wine..excellent..lets just say we enjoyed our anniversery!

The experience and atmosphere when we got there was great and then the food came out. It was absolutely terrible . The filet mignon was over cooked and disgusting . The orange roughy so salty we couldn't eat it. They offered us complimentary dessert which was also just as terrible. Never ever would recommend this place to anyone

Old school kinda place. Both had steaks and the usuals that accompany. Had a fun time and good meal. No it's not Morton's or Ruth's but it was enjoyable. We'll come back. Probably should have a reservation next time.

Great place for dinner! They accommodated a group of 45 as we were here for a lacrosse tournament. We had a private room and the service was great and so was the food. Exceptional steaks, chops and ribs! Our group from Cincinnati would certainly return the next time we are in town. Highly recommended classic dinner club.

More recent edit / visit....upgraded to 4 stars from 3....very good at what they do best....be an old fashioned supper club for folks who like that.... Fish fry is one of the best in the area.....excellent fish fried or broiled....you might try the baked potato rather than the pancake...which is not the best.... Place was packed...you might expect a wait especially if 'in season / the summer'...but a wait in their old bar is not a bad thing...order a brandy old fashioned and sip your way back in time....enjoy ***** A step back in time.....to the 70's....dark interior...lots of reds .... smoky bar with folks who are obviously regulars.... Definitely a cocktail place....bartender had to wipe dust off the wine bottle....just bottle beer as well.... Food was a surprise...steak was overcooked (ordered medium rare but got medium) but very tasty and juicy....wife reported her grouper, I think it was, was also overdone but tasty *** bottom line....interesting and now a new favorite

This place is a classic Wisconsin supper club at it's finest. My husband and I are in our 40's, but we were by far the youngest folks in the place. It was dark as all hell, and I felt like I walked into a time warp that swooped us back to 1972. We were greeted by an old Italian dude in a suit and gym shoes. He reminded me of my dad. Once seated, the waitress came by immediately and delivered a cold relish tray, crackers and cheese spread. We were starving and ordered right away. I got the strip steak and my husband got the t-bone steak. We both ordered them cooked medium, and they were delivered to our table perfectly cooked. The char on the outside was tasty, and the steak itself was one of the juiciest I've every had. We left Anthony's completely satisfied and so full we could have rolled out the front door. All that delicious food only set us back $65. You simply cannot go wrong. We come to Lake Geneva a couple of times a year, and we will definitely be coming back to Anthony's next time.

As mentioned by most reviewers above, this is an old-fashioned steakhouse from the sixties-seventies era. There's nothing wrong with a nice dimly lit bar area. While it obviously hasn't been updated in...well...a few decades...it's well-maintained and clean. The fish fry/broil here on Friday's is really good. I usually get the 50/50 - meaning half fried and the other half broiled - both are good enough that I like a little each. Steaks here are also good - and - pricey as they are at most places. The service couldn't be friendlier - everyone is treated like a regular. Anthony's son usually mans the hostess stand and he's very outgoing and accomodating. The bartenders in the huge circular bar are also friendly and attentive. A strategy I'd recommend would be to first come here on Friday for the fish specials. Have a few drinks at the bar beforehand if you imbibe. Have the fish and then take a look at the menu - you'll see plenty to interest you. Then if you so choose, come back on another night to try a different entree. I'd be surprised however, if you didn't also come back for the Friday fish specials though.

This review is very late in coming. The wife and I were able to plan a last minute get away to Lake Geneva for our anniversary (seems to be becoming somewhat of a tradition). We had made reservations at the Hunt Club specifically for our anniversary but got a late start and weren't going to make those and were likely going to get into town around 9 o'clock. We were starving! My wife started searching her phone for restaurants in the area that may still be open (Lake Geneva tends to roll up the sidewalks pretty early in our experience). We got a hold of someone at Anthony's who said they could seat us until 9. We pulled in at 8:55 in what seemed to be a monsoon and straight into the past. It has a days gone by kind of feel inside - which is a good thing! The staff probably wasn't too happy with the two drenched people without a reservation - but they were very gracious. This place brought back so many memories for me of supper clubs in the North Woods of Wisconsin, although it is a long ways from them. Very dark, quiet and comfortable. Classy without being ostentatious. They brought a tray of crackers, cheeses, vegetables and rolls before we ordered, which really hit the spot! I didn't know any place still did that. The tray of appetizers would have been enough for dinner! But we ordered meals which were excellent and had a wonderful evening. I had Anthony's Special Steak Sandwich (9 Oz) that was cooked to perfection and more importantly great conversation with the wife. It was a bonus having the entire place to ourselves and I can't thank the staff enough for their hospitality. No one was trying to rush us out the door even though I'm sure they all wanted to be heading home!

I have dined here 3 or 4 times in the last year. I live 12 miles away in Delavan and are dining choices are mostly chain type places. I have to give Anthony's a better than average rating. The decor may need a little help but the food is very consistent and I love the steak sandwich . I have had fish and pork chops also and was always well satisfied. I guess it's not what some would call fine dining but I think they do a good job at a fair price!

Words can not even describe what a terrible place this is to eat. We went here for my birthday dinner as we wanted a good steakhouse and they ruined our night. Decor aside, they start you off by bringing you a relish tray with carrots, celery and peppers with no dip, some packaged crackers with a ball of frozen cheese product. Steakhouse without a wine list? Yep. The dinner salads were literally swimming in some kind of generic dressing. Now the best part. We ordered a NY Strip and the King crab legs. $35 for the steak and $45 for the legs. The crab legs we received were sno crab and not king crab and were burned to a crisp and had turned as they smelled bad . The steak which we ordered medium was burned to a crisp/charred on one side and raw on the underside. Totally inedible. We did not eat a bite and brought this to the waitress' attention. She brought over the owner Anthony who is about 80 yrs old and a real ass. We explained that the legs were not king crab as advertised and worth about $6 a pound and that the crab was foul and burned and the steak was burned. So he says "so? we char. it's always like this and there's no changes" He then proceeded to give us a bill for the entire meal $125 with no apologies and without us eating anything. Total disgrace.

Awesome place and pleasantly surprised! We came from Chicago and always drive by this place. Glad we went. New York Strip was cooked perfectly and our waitress was really nice. Anthony also stopped by our table. I highly recommend.

We went there last night after driving past it numerous times and wanting to stop in. I wish we had never gone. The food was OK, although the steak my daughter had was wonderful. The service was the worst I have ever had, in a steakhouse or anywhere else. I've had better service at Denny's. Clearly, our waitress knew many of the people there and was happy to wait on them, but because she didn't know us, she let us sit and wait and wait and wait. It was horrible. I thought we'd never get out of there. We will never go back there again.

  • J F.

Even if the food was free, we would never eat here again! Our two old fashion drinks were half the normal size! Our salads and bread were tasteless, and the duck (hold the gravy-our request) was crisp but not tasty enough to finish. The side of gravy seasoned rice tasted like it was right out of a box. With the exception of the great waitress, this place is the worst!!

If you like an old-style steak house, Anthony's Steak House is the real deal. It's been an annual tradition to bring our best clients to Anthony's for a very relaxed dinner and very good food. The wait staff are career employees who love their jobs, working to make your evening special. You can't find a better steak, and I was told the halibut was delightful. Don't be deterred by the décor, my reason for not giving 5 stars, the experience is well worth it.
